Lasso Tool, Pen Tool, and Layering
- Tool Box: Several tool sets are placed in the toolbox together
- Marque Selection tools

Lasso Tool
Lasso tools are used to draw and pinpoint an image, this is very useful in
combining photos and drawing on an image. There are three branches of lasso
tool; Lasso, polygonal lasso, and magnetic lasso
How to use the Lasso tool: It is used similarly to using a pencil so it is
best to use a graphic tablet when using this tool to give better flow.

Pen Tool
Pen tool is often used to create paths from scratch. It allows us to add
points and drag the curve in a way that we want. It is suggested to use
fewer points as it will create a more smooth finish.
Variation of the pen tool
- straight line path
- U shape curves
- Simple S curves
- Complex S curves

Lasso Tool vs Pen Tool
Compared to the lasso tool, the pen tool is a more efficient tool to make
very precise shapes and paths by placing anchor points manually. The Lasso
tool is more automatic which will make the selection process quicker but
less precise. Even though the pen tool is often used for selection, it is
also useful for creating graphical shapes.
Layering
Layers in Photoshop are stacks of images on top of each other. This is
useful to edit an image that is overlapped without affecting other images.
These stacked images can turn into one piece of design.
Advantage: Saving a file includes saving all the layers that have been
created. Thus, the layers can be used for non-destructive editing

PRACTICAL
Digital collage: In this task, we are introduced to how to use
Photoshop as the key to making collages. We were given several images and
asked to utilize them to make several collage compositions. Below are 3
alternative compositions that I have created.
